Allowances Aren’t Just for Kids

Getting a quarter a week doesn’t quite cut it any more, but Mrs. Frugal and I have found that we began to feel more relaxed about our finances when we gave ourselves allowances. It’s not a huge amount, but what we found is that we feel as though we can save, spend, and buy each other gifts without dipping into our family budget. This has had two effects. One is the one mentioned above, that is, we’re more relaxed about our finances. The other effect is that our joint budget (which still makes up about 95% of our spending)  has fewer miscellaneous items in it and has thus been under better control. You can check out the a podcast we put up at this link.
