Saving Money on Your Children’s Juice (By Mrs. Frugal)

by David on September 14, 2007

Normally I drink water.  I’m not a fan of soft drinks, and juice is expensive. But lately with the hot weather, I’ve gotten sick of water, so I’ve been buying juice.I noticed that the juice always seemed really strong.  So I watered it down, and then it tasted just right. My theory is, that in my childhood, my ever-so-frugal parents (Mr. and Mrs. Very Frugal) always watered down the juice a bit to stretch it further with their four children to save a dime. Now, watered-down-juice is the only thing that feels right on my taste buds.In checking with the Very Frugal Parents, my assumption was correct. In 2+ decades, I haven’t missed the extra juice (or the extra calories)! Double savings!

We water down juice for my boys too. I do not even think they know what regular juice is!
We used to buy juice boxes in bulk but now just do sippy cups. It has been much more cost effective. We buy juice at Walmart or buy one get one free at Publix to save even more money!

We have started using the frozen concentrates for bugetary and storage reasons. These are easy to water down a little. If the kids object at first, start off slow, adding a little more water every few days until you are at a level that you like.
